"Scott 'n the Rocks"
Scott Macmillan is a vibrant
musical force in Atlantic Canada as a, guitarist/
composer/ conductor/ arranger. His creative drive and
love of jazz is found with the best of the best of
Halifax's jazz musicians and the creation of "Scott 'n
the Rocks". Halifax's newest and very exciting little
big jazz band.
In the late 70's Scott
studied with, Duke Ellington's arranger, Ron Collier, at
Humber College. In 1987, his group, The Scott Macmillan
Sextet represented Atlantic Canada at the Montreal Jazz
Festival.
A multi-dimensioned
musician, Scott has made his career moving through many
genres of music. Since 1995 he is more familiar to
audiences as the Host Conductor and Arranger of the
Maritime Pops Series with Symphony Nova. His love for
the jazz band sound has remained brewing on the back
burner and in November 2004 Scott gathered a group of 12
talented and versatile jazz musicians and so “Scott 'n
the Rocks” was launched.
Founded in 2004, Scott has
created a new musical scene in Halifax at Stayners Pub
and Grill on Monday nights throughout the winter months.
These Monday night performances have the top jazz
musicians in the region angling for opportunities to
perform the new and challenging music that Macmillan
presents to them on a regular basis.
With Scott 'n the Rocks,
Scott is looking to provide a creative venue for the
musicians. Scott has opened up the opportunity for
himself and others to express themselves as composers as
well as to explore music through improvisational
performance freedom.
